End of Year Ask Andrew

Time for another #AskAndrew – we asked you for your questions, compiled our favourites and put them to our Marketing Manager Andrew Hewson!

Take a look below to find out a bit about our ideas for upcoming special packaging, what Manga UK will be up to in 2017 and which Dragon Ball Z character Andrew would rather fight in a dark alleyway(!?).

Ask Andrew

Looking back on 2016, what’s your favourite thing that Manga has achieved in the past year?

We’ve done so many fantastic things in the past year that I know all the team here at Manga are very proud of! Personally I was very happy with our release of Akira both theatrically as well as on Blu-ray, so many people came out to see it and shared their photos and thoughts with us on social media – it was really great to see fans come together like that and support anime in cinemas. Moreover, I thought the Blu-ray packaging for Akira was awesome and I hope fans liked it as much as we did!

Another highlight would have to be Pokémon – this was our most successful release this year right behind DBZRF. Definitely a personal achievement for me as this was one of the first licenses I acquired for Manga UK.

Akira

From @JohnKamelot: Are there any plans for Digimon Tamers and the other series?
Digimon was such a great release for us this year that we will definitely look into Tamers – ideally we’d like to bring all the remaining Digimon licenses to the UK, as we know the fans are really keen to get their hands on them. Unfortunately, though, we can’t guarantee anything at this point in time. We’ll keep you posted on our social channels if we have any news!

From @allanlowey: any potential collectors editions discussions on the table? Food Wars? DanMachi? Or too soon to tell?
We recently re-released Akira with some really nice special packaging that I’m a big fan of and I think we’ll be looking into doing something very similar with some of our future releases like Food Wars and Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon. I can’t fully confirm these entirely yet but we will have a a lot more releases with special packaging next year!

From @sakura_bethan: #TeamFray or #TeamDarcy?
#HeartThrobHewson is the only hashtag that matters.

From @Joshawott: If @ajhewson had to drunkenly fight any Dragon Ball character in a shady dark alley, who would it be and why?
Golden Form Frieza – at least he’d be easy to see in the dark! We could fight (for almost an entire season) and then cuddle afterwards! 😉

From @Yowanda_san: Who is your waifu?

What’s coming next for Manga UK in 2017?
Well, we’re kicking off 2017 with two really great theatrical releases – Ghost in the Shell on January 25th and Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions on February 1st – currently both releases are in over 100 cinemas nationwide but expect more to be added early next year. In addition, we also have the highly anticipated In This Corner of the World which will also be released in cinemas. On top of those we’ve also picked up some other great licenses that I’m excited to share with you all after Christmas! Keep an eye out for our website as we’ll also be re-launching it next year with a new, cool, bespoke look and much better functionally. That’s just a little teaser for now but I guarantee you a lot of cool stuff is coming next year, so make sure you stay up to date by following us on Facebook and Twitter!

Merry Christmas everyone! See you in 2017.
