The Most Kick-Ass Women In Anime

As we are a few weeks away from the release of A Certain Scientific Railgun ‘S’, we thought it would be great timing to share with you once again who we think are the most kick-ass women in anime!

Disagree with our choices? Let us know who you think deserves to be on the list!

Motoko Kusanagi – Ghost in the Shell

Motoka Kusanagi

First up is of course Motoko Kusanagi, who has got to be not only Manga Entertainment’s, but also anime’s most iconic kickass character. It doesn’t matter which incarnation of Ghost in the Shell you have seen, Kusanagi’s impact on screen will stay fresh in your memory for years to come. Who can forget the incredible moment from the original Ghost in the Shell movie, where she free falls through the city? This augmented-cybernetic human is certainly not one to mess with.

Revy – Black Lagoon

Revy - Black Lagoon

Next up we have the badass Revy from Black Lagoon. Her name strikes fear into the hearts of even the most hardened criminals and law enforcement officers. With a habit of using foul language, being a heavy drinker and smoker, she’s unlikely to win any ‘role model of the year’ awards. That said, there’s nothing better than watching Revy unleash her fury on some unsuspecting bad guys.

Misaka Mikoto – A Certain Magical Index / A Certain Scientific Railgun

Misaka Mikoto

Known as the legendary ‘Railgun,’ Misaka is one of only seven Level 5 espers within Academy City, Level 5 being the highest rank attainable for an esper. Misaka has a tendency to lose her rag when it comes to Touma Kamjiou, sending her power a little out of control to the misfortune of whatever vending machine and electronics are within her vicinity.

Mirai Kuriyama – Beyond the Boundary

Mirai Kuriyama

Shy, timid, and withdrawn might be a few ways to describe Mirai Kuriyama, but behind those red-rimmed spectacles is a sword wielding spirit warrior. Her sword in question is formed of her own blood, a talent unique to her bloodline. Mirai certainly has no fear when tackling the constant threat of the Youmu.

Akane Tsunemori – Psycho-Pass

Akane Tsunemori

Akane Tsunemori’s journey from newbie detective to bad-ass detective, is one of the many things to love about Psycho-Pass Season 1. Akane is kind, hard working and always wants to do what’s right, making her transformation even more powerful. Like Kusanagi, she is not someone you’ll want to get on the wrong side of.
