Sousuke Ikematsu         Masahiro Higashide         Masaki Suda

Sousuke Ikematsu, who played Higen in The Last Samurai, is set to star as Ryuuzaki, a world-famous detective that succeeds L. Tsukuru Mishima, an investigator hunting down the Death Notes, is played by Masahiro Higashide; he has recently played Hideo Shimada in Parasyte, which is coming to the UK this year. The final character announced is Yuugi Shion, a Kira-revering cyber-terrorist, played by Masaki Suda; he was a member of the live-action Assassination Classroom cast, playing Karma Akabane.

The film's website also revealed that it'll be released in Japan this Autumn. Touted as a “forbidden sequel” to the prior films, this new entry in the franchise will be directed by Shinsuke Sato (Gantz) and will shoot in overseas locations. The film is set in the present day, in which Light and L’s successors wage a war over the six Death Notes on Earth.

Gareth Edwards: From Factory Farm to Godzilla

The director’s path from Sci-Fi London to Hollywood
“We pulled all our favourite moments from Akira and had this library of reference, so whenever we got stuck, or we ever felt like a sequence wasn’t inspired enough, or we didn’t know exactly how to give it that edge to made it feel as epic as we could, we would always thumb through the Akira imagery and suddenly get a wave of excitement or a new direction.”

One Piece Music: Bon Bon Blanco

Tom Smith on bikinis and cowbells
Need more cowbell? Have five! Japanese pop quintet Bon Bon Blanco (or B3 for short) is made up of 80% percussionists – and whilst its vocalist Anna Santos is the only member without an instrument to bash, I’m pretty sure she could work her way around a cowbell if pushed.

FIVE THINGS TO PREPARE YOU FOR LIFE IN JAPAN : PART 2

Jack Neighbour prepares you for life in Japan
Hopefully you found the first three offerings in last weeks part one informative and you’d had ample time to calm your nerves and research a new country to emigrate to. So without further hesitation, let's complete the list.

Psycho-Pass

Who watches the watchmen watching your thoughts...?
Psycho-Pass; the first half of the name should warn you. This is a blend of SF and horror by the studio which brought you Ghost in the Shell, now splicing cyberpunk, police procedural and splatter. There will be blood, and dismembered body parts, and if no-one’s actually eaten a human liver on the show yet, there’s still Psycho-Pass 2 to come.

The Ninja Museum

Stephen Turnbull risks nine deaths in the eye of the ninja storm... or does he?
There is more to the ninja myth than meets the eye. By 1638 all wars had ceased under the police state of the Tokugawa family, yet within twenty years armchair generals were busily writing manuals of military theory, including speculations about sneak attacks, night-fighting and backstabbing.
