Polished Manga

Tuesday 4th October 2016

This October we’re teaming up with Polished Man - an Australian-based charity that recently launched in the UK and is committed to raising funds and awareness for children around the world who suffer from physical and mental abuse. The money raised goes towards trauma recovery and trauma prevention programs for children who have suffered or are at risk of suffering violence globally.

In conjunction with the Polished Man campaign, we’re encouraging everyone to paint a nail to symbolise the one in five children who fall victim to abuse globally - use your nail to spread the word and raise money for the cause. But of course, being Manga UK, an ordinary nail just won’t do: we’re talking creative, colourful and, above all, anime themed! Here in the office we’re doing our own nails with custom decals and setting up our own fundraising page.

Over the course of the month, we’ll be encouraging you guys to take part with polls and competitions, culminating with some great Polished Manga fundraising events at MCM Comic Con! (Details on that to come very soon...)

We’re really excited to be working with Polished Man and making a difference to children all over the world, and encourage everyone, of every gender, to give it a go (even Thor’s getting involved!).

Keep up to date with our involvement over on our Twitter and Instagram, and using the hashtag #PolishedManga!

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Culture shocks and military musings, in Gen Urobuchi's hard-hitting anime
"It’s an interesting time to have a hero with a militarist outlook. This blog has discussed the arguments over the alleged political content in the blockbusting Attack on Titan and Ghibli’s film The Wind Rises. In both cases, the controversies connects to Japan’s own militarist past in the 1930s and ‘40s, and the spectres they conjure up in countries round the world; of Japanese kamikaze pilots, of torturers ruling POW camps, of the so-called “banzai charges” of soldiers sworn to die for their Emperor."
