TOP FIVE ENGLISH VOICE ACTORS

Thursday 17th March 2016

Following on from our English voice actress article, it's time to share with you our favourite English language voice actors:

Yuri Lowenthal

Yuri Lowenthal

Forty four year old Yuri Lowenthal has been lending his voice to anime since 1999. Yuri is one of the most prominent names in the industry with an incredible catalogue including Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto, Suzaku Kururugi in Code Geass, Simon in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Barnaby Brooks Jr. in Tiger & Bunny. If, somehow, you've not heard his voice in an anime, there's a good chance you'd have heard Yuri in a game. Yuri lends his voice to Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4 and all of its spin-offs, Makoto Yuki and Ryoji Mochizuki in Persona 3, Luka in Bayonetta and Luke fon Fabre in Tales of the Abyss. He's the co-author of Voice-Over Voice-Actor with his wife, Tara Platt, both of them also star in their own show, Shelf Life, which also stars Travis Willingham and Bryan Enk.

Johnny Yong Bosch

Johnny Yong Bosch

Forty year old Johnny Yong Bosch may have kick-started his career in 1994 by portraying Adam Park, the second Black Power Ranger in Power Rangers, but he's now a well-known vocal artist. He has voiced some of anime’s greatest and most iconic characters including: Ichigo in Bleach, Artemis in Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal, Izaya Orihara in Durarara!! and Lelouch vi Britannia in Code Geass. He has an equally impressive presence in games with both Yu Narukami and Tohru Adachi in Persona 4 under his belt, both of which he's reprised in the animation and sequels, Kota Fujiki in God Eater Burst, Hajime Hinata in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair and Nero in Devil May Cry 4. Johnny is also the lead singer of band Eyeshine.

Bryce Papenbrook

Bryce Papenbrook

Bryce Papenbrook is the youngest on this list at only twenty-nine years old. Bryce found fame in 2011 when he voiced Misaomi Kida in Durarara!!, and since then he has landed several leading roles including Kirito/Kazuto Kirigaya in Sword Art Online/a>, Makoto Naegi in Danganronpa: The Animation (and the game series), Eren Jaeger in Attack on Titan and Kaname Isaki in A Lull in the Sea. Bryce can also be heard in video games: recently he has played Theodore in Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, Nagito Komaeda in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Machina Kunigiri in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Zidane Tribal in Dissidia Final Fantasy. With many of his most famous roles still continuing, Bryce has made a name for himself and you'll be seeing his name in the credits for a long time to come.

Patrick Seitz

Patrick Seitz

Thirty-seven year old Patrick Seitz is known for his gruff voice and has been playing Franky in One Piece since 2007. He's also voiced Agil in Sword Art Online, Keith Goodman/Sky High in Tiger & Bunny and Ira Gamagoori in Kill la Kill. Somehow missed his gruff voice in anime? Maybe you'll have heard it in a game! Patrick might be better known in Western games, but he's still managed to get his name in BlazBlue as Ragna the Bloodedge, Eternal Sonata as Frédéric François Chopin and Killer is Dead as Mondo Zappa.

Matthew Mercer

Matthew Mercer

Not only does thirty-three year old Matthew Mercer have a super cool name, he's also got an amazing voice! Whilst Troy Baker initially voiced Kanji Tatsumi in Persona 4, Matthew took over when Troy went on his honeymoon halfway through recording the animation. Since then, Matthew has reprised Kanji time and time again without many noticing as the change was so seamless. If that wasn't impressive enough, he's known for giving life to Trafalgar Law in One Piece, Levi in Attack on Titan and Aikuro Mikisugi in Kill la Kill. He's better known in the world of games where he's been in an incredible amount of titles from Alvin in Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 and Trey in Final Fantasy Type-0 to Chrom in Fire Emblem: Awakening and Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 6. Matthew is the creator of web-series There Will Be Brawl and Critical Role where he plays Dungeons & Dragons with several other voice-actors and actresses. Although we've had plenty of Persona 4-related games, we’re hoping to see Matthew reprise his role as Kanji again someday!
