Manga UK’s 2017 Rewind

We’d like to start this off by saying a big thank you to you for all of your support this year – 2017 has been fantastic for us here at Manga UK and that’s all all down to you. Here’s what we achieved…

At May’s MCM London Comic you helped us raise £380 for the Oska Bright Film Festival, which is the leading international festival of films made by, or featuring, people with learning disabilities. It is produced, managed and presented by a learning disabled team.

Than at MCM London Comic Con in October you helped us raise £416 for the National Autistic Society, who are the UK’s leading autism charity. They’ve been pioneering new ways to support people and understand autism. This particular cause was very close to our hearts and we were overwhelmed by your response. We’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to one person in particular, @Sakura_Bethan, who created this comic to help promote Autism awareness.

2017 was also a busy year for theatrical releases, in January we brought Ghost in the Shell back to the big screen, followed by fan-favourite Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Dark Side of Dimensions shortly after in February. Then came the transcendent rock & roll story about X Japan, We Are X in March and the award-winning and incredibly touching In This Corner of the World in June. Our final theatrical release of the year saw Japan plunged into chaos once again in Shin Godzilla.

MANGA UK Essentials 2017
We’ve announced, delayed and released a ton of new titles in 2017, but here are a few we think everybody should check out.

One Punch Man

ONE PUNCH!!!! We’re so glad One Punch Man has made it to the U.K., its humour, characters and memorable fight scenes make it a show that’s an absolute delight to re-watch time and time again. This parody of the shonen genre is a must watch for all anime fans.

Synopsis:
Saitama only became a hero for fun, but after three years of special training, he finds that he can beat even the mightiest opponents with a single punch. Though he faces new enemies every day, it turns out being devastatingly powerful is actually kind of a bore. Can a hero be too strong?

Himouto! Umaru-chan

This series is so much fun. Umaru is not only a wonderful character, she also shows everything that is right and wrong about otaku culture. We absolutely love this show!

Synopsis:
To her classmates, Umaru Doma appears to be the perfect girl. She’s beautiful, friendly, and fashionable, earns top grades, and seems to be able to do any task asked of her with ease. She’s even humble and polite! However, if Umaru’s classmates could see her in the privacy of her home, they wouldn’t even recognize her.

Once she’s inside the door, the pretty clothes come off, the orange hamster hood goes on, and it’s time to pig-out on snack foods, binge-watch television, and play violent video games! This version of Umaru is everything that the public Umaru isn’t: she whines, rolls on the floor, leaves messes all over the apartment, and makes life miserable for her poor older brother, Taihei. Even the most guarded secrets have a way of being found out, and, as Umaru becomes even more obnoxious and outrageous, her two lives are bound to collide in disastrous fashion!

Digimon Adventure Tri

Tai and his fellow DigiDestined are finally back in this long-awaited sequel. We are proud to be bringing more madness from the Digital World to the U.K.!

Synopsis:
It’s been six years since that summer adventure when Taichi Yagami and the rest of the DigiDestined crossed over to the Digital World. And nearly three years have passed since the final battle between Hikari Yagami’s group and BelialVamdemon. As the peaceful days passed by, at some point the gate to the Digital World closed. Not even the DigiDestined know what caused this, and time alone continues to pass.
